  • The Child Care Encyclopedia.  Penelope Leach (Knopf).  Encyclopedia with emphasis on both physical and emotional health problems.
  • Between Parent and Child.  Haim Ginott (Avon).  A very relevant and readable book with a common sense approach to discipline.
  • P. E. T. (Parent Effectiveness Training).  Thomas Gordon (Wyden-paperback).  Excellent work associated with popular approach to improving communication between parent and child.
  • The Magic Years.  Selma Fraibery (Scribner’s Sons-paperback).  Classic work on understanding the problems of early childhood (birth to six years).
  • Child Behavior.  France Ilg and Louise Ames (Dell).  From Gesell Institute, this book covers the most typical traits and growth trends of various ages.
  • How to Raise Children at Home in Your Spare Time.  Marvin J. Gersch (Stein and Day-paperback).  Good overall picture approach to child an illness.
  • The Intelligent Parent’s Guide to Raising Children.  Eve Jones (Collier).  Interesting discussion of emotional development from birth to adolescence.  Many helpful chapters on infancy.
  • Raising a Confident Child.  The Bank Street College of Education.  Joanne Oppenheim, Betty Boegehold and Barbara Brenner.
